To the author's area of professional interests belong issues related to the professional training of future lawyers in general, and both to the formation of moral foundations and legal ethics fundamentals in particular regarding the university learning policy. Analyzed in the paper is the phenomenon of «legal ethics» from the point of view of its understanding in legal science. The distinctive feature of professional legal ethics is its being aimed at the legal professional community. The concept of legal ethics is based on the fundamentals of ethics as a philosophical category resulting from the general term «ethics», which determines human values within the meaning of good and evil. The
research presents the functions of ethics with their details defined. Legal ethics includes both legal and moral regulations along behavioral structures of the indi-vidual. Being a systemic personal entity, legal ethics manifests itself not only in the lawyer’s pro-fessional activity, but also it is reflected in social behavior and everyday interaction with social subjects. As a subject acting on behalf of the state to ensure the protection of the rights and free-doms of an individual, a lawyer declares the state-regulated norms in laws and regulations. With all his / her behavior and morals manifested through it, the lawyer demonstrates the state’s posi-tion on justice, good and evil. In addition, the paper explores the moral categories of «moral choice», «responsibility», «conscience», «honour», and «dignity» included in the concept of le-gal ethics. Given here is the classification of the lawyer's general moral qualities supplemented by those caused by the specifics of legal activity.
